Mihajlovic: Gas interconnection with Bulgaria is the most important project

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, Prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, PhD, said in Sofia that the construction of a gas interconnection with Bulgaria is a priority for Serbia, because the completion of the pipeline will give us the opportunity to supply gas from LNG terminals in Greece or Azerbaijan.

Together with Bulgarian Minister Alexander Nikolov, she attended the signing of an agreement in Sofia between Bulgartransgas and DZZD International Gas for the design, delivery of necessary materials and equipment, construction and commissioning of an interconnection on Bulgarian territory.

"Building an interconnection with Bulgaria is the most important project for us. The works on our side started in January, today a contract was signed for the works on the Bulgarian side, which will speed up the process of building the interconnection and it is certain that everything will be completed by September next year. "Then we will get the opportunity to supply gas from LNG terminals in Greece or Azerbaijan," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

She took part in a meeting of energy ministers "Southeast Energy Transition - Regional Cooperation for Energy Security, Diversification and Transition" in Sofia, together with the energy ministers of Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Northern Macedonia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as with EC and Energy communities.

"I talked with the Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkey about the free capacities for us in Turkey, as well as with the Minister of Azerbaijan and the supply of gas from this country, but also the development of new technologies, especially when it comes to hydrogen. "At the meeting, we talked about filling the warehouse before the beginning of the winter season and accelerating the decarbonization of the energy sector, as well as the need for joint reaction in case of additional disturbances, cooperation and solidarity," she said.
