Mihajlovic: Ministry submits a criminal complaint to the prosecutor's office in Nis for the accident at mine "Soko"

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, Ph.D., said today that the Ministry of Mining and Energy will submit a criminal complaint to the prosecutor's office in Nis because the Ministry believes that there are elements of criminal responsibility for the accident in mine "Soko", bearing in mind that according to the findings of the inspection, omissions were found.

"Ministry of Mining and Energy has completed the inspection report and it is available on the website. We did not want to speak until the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Aleksinac gives its position. When they said that there is no responsibility, the entire team at the Ministry is working on the preparation of a criminal report, because we believe that there are grounds for criminal responsibility and that there is always responsibility, both for good and for bad. We will submit the criminal complaint to the Prosecutor's Office in Nis when we finish it, and of course the families can and should file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office in Aleksinac, and I invite them to do so," she said in response to questions from journalists after the session of the Assembly of the Chamber of Mining and Geological Engineers of Serbia.

"It is a legal obligation, and there is also a moral obligation, because 8 miners died, 20 were injured. Families were left without their loved ones. I can't look these people in the eye until everything is resolved and investigated to the end. It is indeed a high-risk mine, but for the sake of future mines and future work and everything, we have to determine what exactly happened, because we think there are elements for criminal responsibility, bearing in mind that there were no valid permits for the execution of works and other omissions, let's do everything that such a thing never happens again. I expect the criminal complaint to be filed in the next ten days," said Deputy Prime Minister.
