Mihajlovic on the occasion of Miners' Day: Only a strong profession can lead the development of mining
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, Ph.D., on the occasion of Miners' Day, today congratulated all employees in mining, and said that the common goal is to create conditions for the development of mining and good conditions for the work of miners, and that the Chamber of Mining and Geological Engineers of Serbia, which had its first session today.
"I congratulate all the miners on Miners' Day, which from today will also be the Day of the Chamber of Mining and Geological Engineers of Serbia." Of all professions, only miners and geologists did not have their own professional organization, and that will now be corrected. Mining has been present in Serbia for centuries, as we know even today that it is rich in critical mineral raw materials and that the value of mineral wealth in Serbia is more than 250 billion euros. It is up to all of us together to see how these raw materials can be explored and whether some of these raw materials can be exploited in a sustainable way, to benefit the development of all citizens and future generations, said Mihajlovic at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce where the first session of the Assembly of the Chamber of Mining and Geological Engineers of Serbia was held today.
She said that since the Ministry was formed in October 2020, the share of mining in GDP increased from 1.9 percent to 2.6 percent, that the growth of production in mining this year is more than 20 percent and that today almost 30,000 people work in this activity. Today in Serbia we have 191 active companies engaged in the exploitation of mineral raw materials, in 337 exploitation fields, and the total value of production is more than 150 billion dinars, she stated.
Mining can only develop with a strong profession and I believe that the chamber will be a partner of all state institutions. The profession must be in the foreground in every field and it should be so in every field. Also, we will propose to form an independent regulatory body, a mining agency, which should ensure that everything that is done in mining is transparent and that we are part of the development of mining that exists in the world", said Mihajlovic.
Branko Djukic, executive director for technical issues, PE PEU Resavica, congratulated the Miners' Day to all employees who work in mining jobs and expressed satisfaction that the Chamber of Mining and Geological Engineers is being established for the first time as a professional organization.
Gan Yongang, Deputy General Director of Zijin Mining, congratulated the Day of Miners and the establishment of the Chamber, which, as he stated, with the help of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, will contribute to the development of mining in Serbia. He pointed out that this company will encourage its mining and geological engineers to join the chamber and contribute to their company and mining in Serbia.
Dejan Milijanovic, President of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Mining and Geological Engineers of Serbia, congratulated all the miners in Serbia on Miner's Day and expressed his gratitude to all those engaged in one of the most difficult and risky professions.
"The chamber should be a second home for all engineers after college, there is a lot of work ahead of us and our goal is to have a strong profession and sustainable mining", stated Milijanovic.
Zeljko Lacmanovic, the president of the Assembly of the Chamber, with congratulations on the Day of Miners, thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for the formation of the Chamber, which of the many professions did not have only the miner and that they will try to justify the increase.
