Mihajlovic with the vice president of the EIB: Energy transition is key for the development of the entire region

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, Prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, PhD, met today with Lilyana Pavlova, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), and talked with her about the continuation of cooperation in the mining and energy sector.

Mihajlovic pointed out that the EIB is a very important partner for the Ministry, reminding of the successful cooperation in the previous mandate in the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

"For us, your support and assistance are very important, we did a lot together in the previous ministry, I believe that we can be even more successful in the energy and mining sector, because we are at the beginning of an important process for the entire region, it is about energy transition." In addition to current projects such as the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnection and the "smart meters" project, there is a lot of room for our cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. "We have set up several key pillars - how to increase energy efficiency and we do that with citizens and households, we have introduced auctions with the goal of attracting more investments in RES, and we are developing projects in geothermal energy," she said.

Lilyana Pavlova expressed satisfaction with the continuation of successful cooperation and thanked the Government of Serbia and the Ministry for their commitment to the implementation of the green agenda and the energy transition.

"You can count on our help and support, you have a partner and a friend in us. When it comes to the green agenda, I suggest that together we identify projects we can work on. We are here to provide technical assistance in the preparation and implementation of projects, as well as to financially support projects in the green sector. The area of energy efficiency is also interesting for us to cooperate with. "I congratulate you on your commitment to the topic of energy transition, it is not an easy job," Pavlova said.

Mihajlovic informed the vice president of the EIB that new laws in energy and mining have been adopted, and that a new energy development strategy and a national plan for energy and climate are being prepared. The meeting also discussed subsidies for increasing energy efficiency and installing solar panels, as well as projects for the construction of new hydropower plants.
