Mihajlovic in Velika Plana: Energy efficiency brings savings, cleaner air and better conditions for children to work and stay

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, Ph.D., said in Velika Plana, where she visited the works at the elementary school "Nadezda Petrovic", which is being reconstructed as part of the national program of energy renovation of buildings of public importance, that the issue of energy efficiency is not only a matter of reducing bills for heat and electricity rather, it is a question of development and a better standard of living.

"There is no better job than when we create better conditions for the work and stay of children and employees at school. When we formed the Directorate for Energy Efficiency, the primary task was to invest as much as possible in schools and kindergartens, to make the space for children better and better, to reduce consumption and to provide better conditions for everyone. This facility will consume less energy, instead of 18 megawatt-hours, it will consume 6.6, it will emit 40 instead of 88 tons of carbon dioxide, the bills will be lower, and the rooms will not be cold. This is the result of the joint work of the state and local self-government, as well as the projects we worked together in the previous period, primarily in infrastructure and traffic, where the state invested one billion dinars in both Velika Plana and Smederevska Palanka," said Mihajlovic.

She reiterated that the state continues to invest in the improvement of energy efficiency and that 2.6 billion dinars have been set aside for subsidies for the replacement of carpentry and the installation of solar panels.

"When we add it all up, we expect to reduce consumption by 25 to 30 percent, because we are now wasting a huge amount of energy." There is enough money to improve energy efficiency, both for public buildings and for households, and this will also bring us a reduction in harmful gas emissions and savings in money, not only from the state's point of view, but also from the personal budget, because there are parts of Serbia where after replacing carpentry, the bill is even 40 percent lower," said Mihajlovic.

The value of the investment is 23.5 million dinars, of which 16.5 million is provided by the state, and 7 million by the municipality. Thermal energy savings will be 30%, electricity 63%, money 36%, and CO2 emissions will decrease by 46%.

"Thank you to the Deputy Prime Minister for helping us develop just like big cities do." This is the fourth building that we are reconstructing, before that funds were invested for works in two schools and a cultural center. As a municipality, we have already invested, but certainly the support of the Ministry is crucial," said Igor Matkovic, president of the municipality of Velika Plana.

Vesna Ilic, principal of "Nadezda Petrovic" Elementary School, said that the support of the Ministry and the Deputy Prime Minister is very significant, that large funds were allocated so that the school would get adequate space and that both employees and students would have better conditions for work and to stay in Velika Plana.
