Serbia and Azerbaijan signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of energy
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, Prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, PhD, stated that cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of energy, especially in the gas sector and energy transition, will contribute to the improvement of overall relations between the two countries. After signing an agreement between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on cooperation in the field of energy and mining and talks with Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, she said that good political relations between the two countries would help further improve energy cooperation.
"I am glad that the cooperation is based on the friendship of the two presidents and on the friendly relationship between our peoples." The conversation with President Aliyev is especially important, as is the signing of the agreement, and I am sure that this is only the first step for all future agreements and contracts. Good political relations are accompanied by economic cooperation, especially when it comes to transport infrastructure, but there is room to raise cooperation to a higher level, especially in the field of energy and the agreement will further strengthen cooperation, especially in the gas sector, as the Southern Gas Corridor is important. for the supply of the whole of Europe and the diversification of routes and suppliers, "said Mihajlovic.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia has started the construction of a gas interconnection with Bulgaria, which will be completed next year and which will enable us to receive gas from Azerbaijan as well. "We expect that by activating new fields in which natural gas reserves have been confirmed in the Caspian region, Serbia will provide additional quantities of natural gas for its needs, and also by building interconnections it will become a transit route, which further increases stability and security of our country and region." Also, the agreement we signed opens space for cooperation in the part related to electricity, since Azerbaijan has surpluses in electricity production, improvement of energy efficiency and increases opportunities for exchange of experiences and technologies and new investments in RES. Azerbaijan is a country rich in oil and gas, but it also develops renewable sources and there is no country in the world that does not want to have new capacities that use RES for energy production. We also agreed on the formation of smaller working groups, in order to reach joint decisions and solutions at the expert level, "said Mihajlovic.
She pointed out that the reception of our delegation in Baku and the talks it had show mutual respect and understanding and are the basis for faster development of cooperation between the two countries, which this year marks a quarter of a century of bilateral diplomatic relations.
"Thank you for participating in the" Energy Forum ". I am glad to see you, because every time we meet we have quality conversations. This is a great opportunity to discuss future joint actions when it comes to the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as other energy and economic topics that you discussed with President Aliyev. Serbia-Bulgaria interconnection opens numerous opportunities for cooperation in the gas sector and the working group we will form will mostly deal with this topic, but I also agree with you that we should discuss all energy sectors, not only when it comes to gas, but also when it comes to RES, electricity, "said Minister Shahbazov.
