Djedović Handanović emphasized that the Serbia-Hungary oil pipeline is a strategically important project.
“Serbia and Hungary have recognized the strategic importance of constructing the oil pipeline, which will enable our country to diversify its crude oil supply and enhance energy security, which is our top priority. In light of today’s geopolitical challenges, it is essential to ensure multiple supply options and reduce the risks of reliance on a single source. In the coming period, we will continue strategic talks with representatives of the Russian and Hungarian governments on the legal, economic, technical, and other details of this important project, which holds significance beyond our borders,” the Minister stated.
She also highlighted that cooperation among the three countries in the field of natural gas supply serves a high-level example to be followed in the oil supply sector as well. “Just as the Balkan Stream gas pipeline, which supplies Serbia and Hungary with Russian gas, has become a pillar of energy connectivity and reliability, this oil pipeline can also become a new pillar of cooperation,” Djedović Handanović said.
At the meeting, it was noted that the design of the pipeline sections on both the Serbian and Hungarian sides has been accelerated, and that high-level talks will continue to reach agreements on all remaining issues.
